Glossary
The words ChefAdmin uses, in plain English.
These are the same explanations you see when you hover over or tap a word with a dotted underline anywhere in these docs.
- Branch
- A physical location, such as a restaurant, a dark kitchen or a central kitchen. Read more
- Brand
- A restaurant concept with its own menu, for example one burger brand and one chicken brand run from the same kitchen. Read more
- Central kitchen
- A branch that produces food and stock for other branches. Branches request items from it and it transfers them out. Read more
- Combo
- A set of menu items sold together at one price, such as a burger, fries and a drink. Read more
- Cookbook
- Where your recipes live in the chef app. The Personal tab holds your own folder and brands; the Company tab holds your company's brands. Read more
- Engineering
- The space where recipes are cleaned up, matched to ingredients and approved before they become part of your live kitchen. Every login has it. Read more
- FCR
- Food cost ratio: what the ingredients in a dish cost, as a percentage of its selling price before VAT. Shown in Menu Manager as Profitability %. Read more
- Free plan
- Build and finish your first 10 recipes, imports included, at no cost. Read more
- Kitchen
- USD 60 a month. The full operating system: live menus, costing, purchasing, stock and reports. Includes 1 location and 2 live brands. Read more
- Let me help
- The AI assistant button. It fills in what it can, such as allergens, nutrition or a method, and tells you honestly what it could not check. Read more
- Marketlist
- The list of raw ingredients your recipes use, grouped by category. Suppliers and prices are managed on desktop. Read more
- Matching
- Linking each ingredient line in a recipe to an item in your company inventory, so stock, allergens and costs all add up. Read more
- Modifier group
- A set of extras or choices customers can add, such as extra cheese or a choice of sauce, attached to menu categories. Read more
- Par level
- The amount of an item a branch should always have on hand. When stock drops below par, ChefAdmin highlights it. Read more
- Personal folder
- Your private space in the chef app. Nobody else can see it, not even the account owner. Anything you capture lands here first. Read more
- Portfolio
- A view-only history of the recipes you have built and where they ended up. Read more
- Pro
- USD 9 a month. Unlimited recipe building in Engineering and the chef app. Read more
- Promote
- Moving an approved recipe out of Engineering into your live system, where it can be costed, priced and sold. Needs the Kitchen plan. Read more
- Ready for approval
- Sending a copy of a recipe from your own space to one of your company's brands, so a manager can check it and approve it. Read more
- Receive Delivery
- Checking a supplier delivery against its purchase order, line by line, and accepting or rejecting each item. Read more
- Requisition
- A request for stock to be sent to your kitchen, raised from the items your approved recipes use. Read more
- Sequenced
- The order things must be made in. You cannot make pizza dough without first making the biga, so biga comes before dough, and dough before pizza. Read more
- Stocktake
- Counting what is physically on the shelf so the system matches reality. Read more
- Sub Recipe
- Something you make in house and use inside other recipes, such as a sauce, a dough or a stock. It has its own ingredients, method and yield. Read more
- Version
- Each time a live recipe is changed, ChefAdmin keeps the old one as a previous version. See them under History in Recipe Manager. Read more
- Yield
- How much a recipe makes. A Menu Item shows "Serves", a Sub Recipe shows "Makes" (for example 2 Kg or 40 portions). Read more
