How Engineering works
The steps every recipe goes through, from import to your live menu, and what shared means for sub recipes and ingredients.
Every recipe goes through the same steps. Engineering Home shows them as a pipeline: Ripped, Cleaned, Matched, Methods and Promoted.
Ripped: get the recipes in
Import a spreadsheet, capture recipes in the chef app, or build them by hand. See Import recipes.
Cleaned: sort them
File each recipe as a dish you serve () or something you make for other recipes (), and link sub recipes into the dishes that use them. See Sort and match.
Matched: link every ingredient
Each ingredient line is linked to an item in your company inventory, or added as a new ingredient. Most are matched for you. See Sort and match.
Methods: finish the recipe
Add the category, yield and method steps. can draft a method from the ingredients. See The recipe editor.
Promoted: approve and send it live
A manager approves the recipe, then promotes it into Recipe Manager, where it can be priced and put on the menu. See Approve and promote.
What is shared and what belongs to a brand
- Menu Items belong to one brand.
- Sub Recipes, ingredients and the marketlist are shared across all your brands. Match an ingredient once and every brand benefits. Use the brand switcher at the top of each screen to see All brands or just one.
The order things are made in
Sub recipes can use other sub recipes. ChefAdmin works out the build order for you: base sub recipes first, then the ones made from them, then the dishes. This is what ChefAdmin means by , and it is why a dish cannot be approved until the sub recipes it uses are finished.
Nothing is company data until it is promoted
Recipes in Engineering, and in a chef's own space in the chef app, are drafts. They become part of your company's live system at one moment: when they are promoted. A chef who sent a recipe keeps the credit for it.
