Import recipes on the desktop

Upload a recipe spreadsheet, review what ChefAdmin found in build order, and create the recipes into a brand.

Open Engineering > Home and click Import data, or choose Bulk Upload from the ⋯ menu on the Recipes list.

Upload

Drop a file on the page or click to browse. The desktop accepts spreadsheets: .xlsx, .xls, .csv and .numbers. For PDFs and photos, use the chef app.

Click Read the file. Nothing is created yet.

Wait while it reads

ChefAdmin finds each recipe, pulls out ingredients and quantities, matches units and works out the build order. Big or messy sheets take longer.

Review

ChefAdmin tells you how many sub recipes and menu items it found, and any possible duplicates. It lists them in build order:

  • Base sub recipes with no dependencies, built first.
  • Sub recipes made from other sub recipes.
  • Menu items, assembled last.

It also warns you about loops (a recipe that uses itself) and references to recipes it could not find, and lists the new ingredients that will go into your shared marketlist.

Answer any questions it asks. Check the items it set aside while cleaning up your sheet, and choose Restore as Menu Item, Restore as Sub-Recipe or Dismiss for each.

Choose the brand and create

Under Create into, pick the brand the menu items belong to, or create one. Sub recipes stay shared across brands. Brands in development are free; you only pay when a brand is promoted live.

Click Create. The recipes appear in Recipes, in build order.

You can leave part-way through. Saved imports appear under Continue where you left off.
