Sub recipes
How to mark something you make in house, how ChefAdmin drafts the sub recipe for you, and how sub recipes link to your dishes.
A is anything you make in house and use in other recipes: a sauce, a dough, a stock, a dressing. It has its own ingredients, method and , and every dish that uses it stays in step when you change it.
Mark a line as "I make it"
On a , every ingredient row has a toggle:
- Raw: something you buy, like flour or chicken thighs.
- I make it: something you make yourself. It becomes a sub recipe.
Tap I make it on lines like "house burger sauce" or "pizza dough", then save.
ChefAdmin drafts it for you
When you save, ChefAdmin drafts each new I make it line as a normal kitchen batch, with ingredients, a method and a yield, and fills in its allergens and nutrition. The button shows Saving, drafting your sub recipes… while it works.
You then land on the first new sub recipe, with the note "Drafted from your dish. Check the amounts and save." Check it, adjust the batch to how you really make it, and save.
Already have that sub recipe?
If a sub recipe with the same name already exists, ChefAdmin links to it instead of drafting a new one.
Limits:
- Up to six sub recipes are drafted in one save. Any more are created empty, with the note to add their ingredients by hand.
- Each drafted sub recipe uses one AI help. If your monthly AI help has run out, the sub recipe is created empty for you to fill in.
- Your dish always saves, even if a draft fails.
Create a sub recipe directly
- Capture or build a recipe as usual.
- Under This recipe is a, choose Sub Recipe.
- Under Other recipes will see this sub recipe as, give the name dishes will use.
- Set Makes to the total batch, for example 2 Kg or 10 Piece.
Turning a sub recipe back into a Menu Item
If other recipes use it, ChefAdmin warns you: Used by [n] recipes. Converting it removes those links. Choose Convert anyway or Keep as sub recipe.
Sub recipes inside sub recipes
Sub recipes can use other sub recipes, as deep as you need. This chain is the recipe's : the biga comes before the dough, and the dough before the pizza.
Before a dish can be approved
A dish cannot be approved until every I make it line has a sub recipe with ingredients and a method. Open each sub recipe from the dish's ingredient list (they are tagged sub recipe) and finish it.
